Turning Japanese

There are many reasons why I wish I were Japanese.  I could dress as a Harajuku girl and play dress ups everyday.  I could still love Hello Kitty despite being 21 years of age without feeling shameful. I could also eat and perhaps even cook Japanese food each and every day.

In an average week, I probably eat Japanese three to four times a week.  Sushi, Udon noodles and Sashimi are all my diet staples.  Dinner is my favourite meal of the day and last night, I was in the mood for what I called "fancy Japanese."

'What's "fancy Japanese?"' asked my brother.
I replied, 'None of that quick and easy shit. I'm craving a quality Japanese seafood meal and fancy sashimi platter.'

And that's what I got. After Googling away and calling a bunch of Japanese restaurants in Sydney, I settled on iiza in Newtown. I had noticed the place quite a few times but had never been before and had always been curious to try the place.  We were incredibly lucky that at 8pm, prime dining time, there was a table for three available.

The service was slow and the while they had jammed too many tables in front area of the restaurant which the made the atmosphere rather noisy and stuffy, the food was so amazing that I was willing to overlook it all. And I'll almost definitely go back.

Here's how they won me over:

Grilled Scallops with Saikyo butter sauce

Bottom: Teriyaki Duck
