Review: Pretty in pink

For some time, I've been toying with the idea of dip-dyeing my hair - I'm sure you're sick of reading about it.  You'll be pleased to know back in December, I did end up getting subtle balayage in my hair for summer. I also purchased Kevin Murphy's Color Bug which is a wipe-on colour hair product of a chalky powder texture which looks pretty damn good when applied to my now lighter ends. Available in pink, purple and orange, it buildable colour with the commitment, the cost and any damage to your locks. One wash and the colour is gone.

While the dome-shaped packaging is difficult to grip onto, I dropped mine the first time I used it, thankfully, not all the powder shattered on the floor but enough to turn a section of my floor hot pink. Since that almost heart breaking experience, I hadn't touched my Color Bug in some time (I forgot to pack it when I went overseas), so on Sunday, I decided I would take it out to play.

After about 10 minutes of wiping on the colour and  hair spraying it so it would set, viola, I was greeted with pink hair.  I even snapped a pic for you - much later in the afternoon so it's slightly faded but you get the idea.  Perhaps next time, I'll build on the colour even more.  Wondering if you could pull it off?  Judging by the positive comments I received from my friends, I say you can, and they were so glowing that I'm even considering doing it permanently (once again).

Hair-spiration

There are three things in my life which I bore of very easily.  The first being my wardrobe, the second being my hair, the third being my nail colour.  This week, I've been particularly tired of my hair.

To those who have seen me looking at my reflection in train windows as well as shop fronts and office doors when I'm walking to work - I'm not checking myself out but trying to figure out how much of my hair I want to chop off. Promise!

I'm also still toying with the idea of dip-dyeing my locks. Yes, still.

How late is 'too late'?

It's a 90s revival. Back in 2010, it was the year of the flanny. Last year, a trend emerged and we saw an abundance of young ladies who dared to bare their midriffs.  It's only now that I've come to realise these were just sneak peeks and there was plenty more to come.

Grunge is becoming mainstream and Kurt Cobain is probably turning in his grave. Ripped jeans, double denim and candy coloured hair is now being sported by the likes of Kate Bosworth and Sienna Miller.

Which makes me think when is it too late to do something you've wanted to do for a while? Back in April, I wanted to dip-dye my hair blue, last month I toyed with the idea of dyeing it pink, last night I thought perhaps I'd settle with a subtle balayage and tonight, I'm back to thinking a nice powder blue.

Is it too late to make a strong style statement like this one now?  Would it still be deemed as assertion of individuality or would it been seen as jumping on the bandwagon?  You tell me.

Spring fling

Sydney weather is so temperamental but that's Spring for you.  From the weekend's glorious sun to yesterday's howling wind, to tonight's rain, it's so unpredictable you would think you were in London.

The changing seasons can most certainly take toll on your skin but there is no reason why those allergies should keep you in hiding. Pucker up with a bright orange hue, dab on some peachy cream blush or work the smoky eye, they all work fabulously as instant pick me ups.

Daisies and fishtail braids

Seeing beautiful images like this makes me wish I didn't lob my hair. Not that I would at all be skilled enough to plait fishtail braids so neatly, source miniature daisies and strategically pin them so they would stay, but a girl can dream.

Right now, I'm listening to Bon Iver's self-titled item. Does it set the mood to view the above image of what? Call me weird, but I can see the model just twirling around in her grey dress holding daisies in her hands.

Dipped in candy

The hair trend first emerged late last year with celebs including Gaga, Peaches Geldolf and Katy Perry sporting pink and purple candy coloured tips. On and off the runway, models such as Dree Hemingway, Abbey Lee and Charlotte Free have showcased the trend. Now, months later, we're seeing dip dyed hair really take off.

It's been featured in Grazia, not once but twice. Just look at the sneak peeks of Topshop's soon-to-be-released lookbook - models are rocking acid green and fairy floss pink ends and you know this look is going to big. It's a little bit punk rocker, edgy enough but not too out there.

Will you be jumping on the candy tipped hair bandwagon? What colour will you be dipping your hair in?
